St Patrick's Parade

St Patrick's Parade

Sunday 15 March 2015

The highlight of the festivities starts at 12 noon with a confetti blast. The 2014 theme was Irish Myths and Legends. led by an Olliphoist, an Irish Dragon. The legend goes that after St Patrick had rid ireland of snakes he turned his attention to dragons. Knowing his fate the great Olliphoist fled ireland with great haste, and in doing so carved out with his tail the Shannon.

Munster will be the leading Province in 2015. followed by Irish Pipes and Drums Band plus five other marching bands. We have already been contacted by 3 pipe bands from Ireland who hope to join us next year.

2014 saw An Lochrann Linn Brass Band from Carrickmacross join the Parade.. It was mainly made up of teenagers and they had a great time. They visited the West Midlands Safari Park as well as attractions in Birmingham.

The Irish Prison Service Pipe Band from Dublin also came over and won the Marching Band Competition. They wrote a glowing report of Birmingham's St Patrick's Fetivities.

The Lord Mayor Mike Leddy, who has Irish roots in Dublin and the West of Ireland, together with his wife Pauline, the Lady Mayoress were our guests on the open top lead bus.which had, floats, walking groups, tractors, scooters, vintage cars and much more following in its wake. There are countless stories from every county in ireland about mythical creatures, giants and heroes, not to mention 'the little people' and the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow. All were well represented. The Children of Lir, depicted by a local primary school looked spectacular.
